It was Mahasamadhi day – Covid ensured that we had to change somethings. So the children of our flying birds, who were used to having a sumptuous lunch at the bhandara and then playing in the swings, had it differently this time. Some tried sneaking into the tent from the back, some came in groups with an older kid directing them, some took refuge of their mothers to get their tray, all in all, they had great stories relating each one’s adventure. And with what pride, they walked back carrying those take away food trays, as it was something new for them. One young girl, even got the attention of a young mason going for work, that, “Look what I have !’ Finally off at the swings, the kids asked, “Ma’am when are you opening school?” The only consolation… they are having a small Diwali gift distribution today as it is both Diwali and Children’s day.
Another milestone achieved has been to develop a book for children on water and sanitation issue. We had attended a webinar with the Water Secretary, Government of India and in the live question and answer session, he exhorted all to write as much as possible on water issues, especially those related with women and children. This endeavour of ours is the first in the series.
