The Founder Sri Swami Rama invited Dr.Jayant Patil, Member Planning Commission to inaugurate the Combined Therapy building. At that time we were few residents who pitched in for everything – it is a different matter that the aura of Swamiji generated enthusiasm among all to give their best.
We were slated to leave the Rishikesh ashram (at that time the residences complexes at the campus were not yet done) at 6am as the inauguration was at 8am. At 1am I get a knock at my door that Swamiji is waiting for you. ‘Waiting?’ ‘I’m like I need to dress up (had kept aside a green silk saree for this event). Quickly I wrapped it and ran out. Swamiji was standing by the white Tata Sierra which was to bring us to the Institute. Looking at me, he said, “Don’t keep your Teacher waiting!” “I’m like “What?’ [Today, as the years roll, I realise he meant it at a different level, as the Guru is the key for opening the door to the Divine!].
We drove into the Himalayan campus at Jolly Grant. Swamiji walked straight into his room, sat on his bed and closed his eyes. I was sitting down near his feet waiting. At about 4-4.30am, I asked (with neither of us having moved), ‘Swamiji, why did we come so early?” He said, “Because, once they know I’m here, they’ll work with all zeal.” True enough, nothing was ready when we had come, but by the time of inauguration the whole place was thoroughly cleaned, beautiful rangoli and flower decoration done. The tent between Swamiji’s apartment and Combined Therapy was up. And at the exact time, Swamiji got down the apartment, received the Chief Guest and in his inaugural address spoke so movingly of His Master in whose honour he was completing this project.
Offering my life at thy holy feet, Loving all — selfless and complete.

What a lovely memory. I remember working in this building when Baba was still in the body. (smile) Yes, and lots of work got done when he was there – day or night!
