Inclusion of people with disability as the otherwise not so thought of group is a difficult yet no so difficult task! It’s difficult because they are not considered as part of mainstream development and it is not so difficult because it only takes a thought to make them part of mainstream development.
The challenges faced by people with disability are unique across age, sex, social and economic status. The options to ensure inclusive, adaptable, accessible, affordable facilities and services require unique solutions as the challenges could be different from one person to another.
Still there are worldwide efforts being made across all aspects of community development to ensure a life of dignity for all. We at Rural Development Institute too have always believed in making sincere efforts for all, encompassing rehabilitative efforts at community level.
Before diving deep into various aspects of community based rehabilitation conscious efforts were made to head for trained mindset in the field. Nuances were learnt, experiences were built and exchanged and the team was enriched with hands on-tools to at least begin the efforts in making each individual count.
Earlier still, knowledge sharing was done, capacities enhanced and services delivered for specific disabilities. This was done across levels to run the same message in varied capacities.
The efforts have rocketed in higher horizons towards inclusion in over one and half decade.
