October was a month of smiles, stories, and service for the Rural Development Institute (RDI). From the serene hills of Kalsi to the fertile plains of Haridwar, RDI teams reached out to mothers, children, and communities with a shared purpose — to nurture health, hope, and happiness.

Each visit, each camp, and each conversation brought us closer to the heart of rural life. In villages like Jaswawala, Ibrahimpur, Anneki, Taliwala, and Alipur, our health workers met with pregnant and lactating mothers — listening to their concerns, offering compassionate counseling on nutrition, hygiene, immunization, and breastfeeding, and reminding them that small, consistent steps can bring lasting change. For many high-risk mothers, home visits meant more than just medical care — they meant comfort, trust, and the reassuring presence of a friend.

Schools echoed with laughter as RDI teams conducted health check-ups and awareness sessions in Raipur Derra, Kutubpur, and GIC Lakhwar. From 19 curious learners in Raipur to 68 cheerful students in Kutubpur, every child learned about handwashing, healthy eating, and personal hygiene. Their joyful participation reminded us that health education can be both engaging and empowering.
At the telemedicine center in Nagthat, technology became a bridge of healing, connecting dozens of patients from remote corners of Kalsi block with doctors and specialists — saving them travel, time, and anxiety. In Taliwala, a vibrant Nutrition Day celebration reminded 31 women that a healthy family begins with a healthy plate. Meanwhile, dropout girls in Anneki village showcased their creativity through a Poster-Making Competition on “Nutrition and Hand Hygiene”, using color and imagination to spread vital health messages. The TB Elimination Program also continued its vital work by distributing protein-rich food kits and providing ongoing medical care and counseling to patients under the Ni-Kshay Mitra initiative.

The festive spirit illuminated our Flying Birds and Vidya Schools, where children celebrated Diwali with boundless joy. Through stories and activities, they learned the deeper meaning of the festival — the victory of light over darkness — and filled the campus with diyas, decorations, and laughter. A Parent-Teacher Meeting added a special warmth to the month, strengthening bonds between parents and teachers as they reflected on students’ academic and emotional growth.
At the Cancer Care & Research Centre Pediatric Ward, art and play therapy brought light to little hearts. Two young patients painted their dreams, their mothers joining in — transforming treatment time into moments of love and creativity.
Meanwhile, RDI’s short-term vocational courses continued empowering rural youth through IT, Electrician-cum-Plumber, and ASHA training programs, helping them build brighter futures. The RDI team also brought cultural energy to campus by performing the main roles of Lord Ram and Lakshman in the 11-day Ramleela celebrations, blending devotion, art, and community spirit. RDI celebrated the International Day of Rural Women, honoring the strength and resilience of women who form the backbone of our villages. The team also participated in a joyful Rangoli competition, symbolizing unity and creativity.

The month was further marked by inspiring leadership visits from Dr. Vinod Kumar Paul (NITI Aayog) and Dr. Nalini Singhal & Dr. Douglas McMillan from the University of Calgary, Canada, who appreciated RDI’s community-driven efforts. Adding to the celebration, RDI-HIHT was honored with the Rural Healthcare Award, recognizing our commitment to health, humanity, and holistic rural development.
Every counseling session, every home visit, every child’s smile — together they wove the story of October. It was truly a month of compassion in action, where RDI once again proved that change begins with care — and care begins with connection.
