Swasthya Melas are health fairs where the hospital is literally taken to the doorsteps of the local community. A team of physicians, gynecologists, dentist, ophthalmologist and pediatricians provide primary health checkups, treatment and referrals. Basic laboratory investigations are also provided in makeshift tents. Puppet and video shows are integral part of the education component provided at the swasthya mela's. Puppets have proven to be a good folk media in gathering the community for general health messages. All puppet shows are interactive where the puppeteers ask related questions or even let the local people perform.
