Each of the many facets of the unique personality of H.H. Dr.Swami Rama represents only one aspect of a magnificent diamond, whose brilliance humbly reflects the divinity shining within. To describe him as a Yogi, Scientist, Philosopher / Teacher, Humanitarian, Writer and Musician/Artist provides merely a glimpse of the totality of the remarkable individual known as H.H.Dr. Swami Rama.

He demonstrated what a human being was capable of, what a human being could give to others and to the world. If there is a single phrase that defined Swamiji’s actions in the world, it is selfless service. Throughout his entire life, whether with individual students or entire communities, Swamiji gave and gave without expecting anything in return. Having reached the heights of spiritual enlightenment, he strived with seemingly endless energy to attain perfection in his actions in the external world.

His life embodied the human potential to live in the world, and yet remain above. As impressive as they are, his worldly accomplishments are not what first comes to mind when we think of him. What we remember above all is his compassion, his patience, his wisdom, and his selflessness. He loved us unconditionally, that was his life. Swamiji’s work continues at the Himalayan International Institute, his centers, at the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust in India, and in our lives as we strive to practice what he taught. He is alive, shining softly in the hearts of his students throughout the world.
