Teacher
"You
are not only your body, senses, emotions, or thoughts. You are a wave
of the eternal and immortal. Realize that. Don't worry. In all circumstances,
be happy, give, love all, exclude none. Life is like a procession
which is rushing through a narrow lane. Just find your way and pass."
Swamiji followed his master's instructions, bringing his knowledge
and wisdom to the West. With love, boundless energy, and endless patience,
he selflessly devoted himself to helping thousands of students live
skillfully in the world while learning to turn their awareness inward
in meditation. His teachings combine eastern spirituality with modern
western therapies. Even though he had extensive contact with religious
thinkers and had a vast knowledge of the spiritual traditions throughout
the world, Swamiji did not teach any particular religious doctrine.
|

He
was a free thinker, guided by his direct experience and inner wisdom,
and he encouraged his students to do likewise. Swamiji's deep love
for his ancient spiritual tradition was reflected in his life and
work. For nearly thirty years he lectured throughout the world in
monasteries, churches, universities, and medical schools. He could
be stern and philosophical, but he had a lively sense of humor and
was often playful as well. Above all, he was eminently practical.
People would come to see him expecting some esoteric teaching that
would transform them magically and he would invariably teach them
how to sit up straight, eat properly, breathe correctly, and make
their lives less stressful. " Start from where you are,"
he would say. " Be patient and move on by practicing systematically."
He could quote lofty passages from the ancient scriptures, but more
often he simply reminded people the above quoted lines. His nonsectarian
and universal approach toward life and the teachings he imparted were
accepted by all religious faiths and communities, making him a binding
force between the East and the West.
