As the current Covid wave engulfs the nation through encounter with large deaths, the focus rightly has come on the orphans and the need for adoption legally. Well, it takes us back the memory lane of how we strengthened our scholarship program. Our Founder had enabled set up of libraries in Universities, enabled bright individuals to do higher studies abroad and promoted ‘practical living’ at all walks of life.
Swami Rama himself was orphaned at an early age, so was his Master, Bengali Baba. Both were raised by their respective Guru in the Himalayas, close to nature and in the company of sages, while being enabled education in the modern universities. We carried on that legacy through the Swami Rama Scholarship Program focusing on orphans and subsequently on children with single parents.
Each of Swami Rama’s groups across the world assisted in this too.
Till date, 700 Children have benefitted, of which 70 were orphans and 270 single parent children. Average number of years each of these children have been handheld is 8 years, while they stay with their extended families. They are provided fees, uniforms, sweaters, hygiene kits and stationary. Workshops are also held during summer and winter vacations.
Till date we have received support from Association Cultural Para el Estudio Del Yoga, Spain, Carring Hand, USA and many other individual donors.
“Children become the fathers and mothers of the next generation of our society, so our society should provide all children with a complete education in how to be a human being.” – Swami Rama
