In honor of Guru Purnima July 21, 2024

On the hour of parting
I have nothing to offer you
but a token of my deep reverential affection
and gratitude.

I who cannot give anything to you,
ramble into the garden of my mind
and the eternal valley of my spirit
to gather the fairest flowers I can find.

As my thoughts dwell lovingly
on your holy feet,
I am lifted to a higher level
of effort and devotion.

When I contemplate on the meaning of life,
I remember you saying the day would come
when your love for humanity would deepen the furrows
from which should spring a richer harvest of inspiration.

In the sweet solitude of those moments,
your voice echoes
and I start to cry.
