Before he dropped his body, the Founder Swami Rama had asked me to work for Women and Child, saying that would be my tribute to India. There were different models we followed in taking this service forward – some donor driven (through bilateral agencies like USAID, Gates Foundation etc) and others were supporting government machinery in taking this care to the last mile.
The mountainous terrain, the lack of basic services in the early decades made us stick to the medical and social needs. But what about the core of the spiritual teachings that produced giants like Buddha, Mahavira and other establishers of various orders? It is then that we began to work with Swamiji’s teachings with pregnant mothers.
For a start, the books ‘Love and Family Life’, ‘Let the bud of life bloom’ and ‘Conscious Living’ would be a good beginning.
