Even as the foundation stone for HIHT was being laid, Swami Rama’s disciples in Canada and US were working to give shape to his vision. Dr.Martin Jerry, an internationally renowned medical oncologist helped seed what is now a full fledged cancer center here. Simultaneously cancer camps were organized, specialists here taken through pain management protocols as well as palliative care. He also helped us see the large picture of cancer care and cancer control at country perspective.
The cancer institute came up with all facilities under one roof. Post the formation of Uttarkhand, the state also developed a center at Kumaon. Ours then got named as Susheela Tiwari cancer research institute and the one at Haldwani as Swami Ram cancer hospital. Today ours is one of the premier cancer center providing cutting edge oncological treatment and research facilities, manned by highly qualified and experienced team of oncologists.
We, at RDI, have been supporting both the outreach as well as children who come for cancer care. For the children, we from RDI have been enabling art therapy (once a week) as well as fulfil their small desires (anything permissible outside of the treatment being received).
At the field, early detection was enabled for women (for breast cancer) in haridwar (bhadrabad area), Dehradun (Kalsi block) and Pauri (Toli area) using the Niramai AI-based Mythri Thermalytix device. This is a innovative AI-powered painless, radiation-free, non-invasive, and privacy-aware technology made breast cancer screening accessible to women in rural and underserved communities, thus helping them overcome fear, stigma, and barriers to early diagnosis.
The screenings identified women with normal and low-risk findings who were encouraged to continue regular breast self-examination and annual screening, while women with suspicious findings were promptly referred for further evaluation through breast ultrasound. Every screening was more than just a test—it was an opportunity to create awareness, inspire confidence, and potentially save lives through timely intervention.
